Project FullGas

13 August 2019 ·

For the 2nd year running, I have finished the Prudential RideLondon this time without the rain. For me, it was the fastest 100 miles I have ever completed, with an avg pace of 19.4mph. With myself now maybe being in the best shape of my life it’s time to take my cycling up a notch.

Hence the reason for this little site of mine. I have set myself some lofty goals for next year starting with potential events (in no order):

  • Dragon Ride
  • L’Etape Du Tour
  • L’Etape UK
  • London to Brighton
  • Prudential RideLondon

These are the main events I have my eye on. Along with the epic sportives, I want to start competing in my local criterium races. Now I would consider my self a pretty strong rider, I have never properly raced a bike, thinking about racing is a little daunting but I’m up for the challenge.

I’ll have support from a fellow RCC teammate Dave and one of our riding buddies Dale. Whom both helped pull me to my fastest 100 miles.

I will be using this site / blog to keep track of my progress, whether it be bad or good. I want something to look back on when I eventually get myself on a crit podium or get my first KOM, so I can look back and see where have progressed from.

Below you’re able to see my current All Time power chart with my current watt/kg numbers. This is taken from Trainer Road my indoor training app of choice.

current powerchart

Power Numbers

These numbers are from the date 13th Aug 2019. My weight on the day was 71.4kg.

Time Watt/kg Watts
5sec 14.30 1021
1min 6.44 460
5min 4.05 289
FTP 3.21 229

Now for your avg run of the mill cyclist, I feel these numbers are pretty good. But I don’t want to just be a run of the mill cyclist, I want to be a Cat1 cyclist, whether I get there or not is a different story I am no spring chicken.

Goals for 2020.

  1. Reach an FTP of 300w
  2. Sprint 1500w for 5s
  3. Keep my weight around 70kg
  4. Get on a criterium podium.
  5. Move up racing categories.
  6. Complete all the mentioned sportives bettering my time from previous times.

Now there are only 6 goals here, more than likely I won’t be able to hit all 5 due to life commitments and work. However, I am going to give it my all to smash them! You can follow my progress here, its time to start project full gas.
